Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 2026

The short version: Dotty doesn't collect your data. There's no account, no server, and nothing about your dottys or logged days ever leaves your device.

What Dotty is

Dotty is an iOS app made by Genevieve Chang ("we", "us") for keeping a personal record of everyday moments. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it.

Information we collect

None. Dotty does not require an account, does not ask for your name, email, location, or any personal details, and does not include analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting software that sends data off your device.

Where your data lives

Everything you create in Dotty — every dotty, sticker, color and logged day — is stored locally on your iPhone using Apple's on-device SwiftData storage. If you use the Dotty widget, it reads that same local data through a private App Group container that both the app and widget can access on your device; this never leaves your device either.

Because there's no account or server, we have no way to see, back up, or recover your data. Deleting the app deletes your data with it, and there's currently no built-in export or iCloud sync — if that changes in a future version, this policy will be updated first.

Data sharing

We don't share, sell, or transmit your information to anyone, because we never receive it in the first place. Dotty makes no network requests with your personal data.

Children's privacy

Dotty is not directed at children under 13, and since the app collects no personal information from anyone, it does not knowingly collect information from children either.

Your choices

Because everything stays on your device, you're already in full control: delete a dotty or the app itself at any time from your phone to remove the associated data. There's nothing for us to delete on our end.

Changes to this policy

If Dotty's data practices change — for example, if account sync or analytics are added in a future version — this page will be updated and the "last updated" date above will change. We'll aim to make any material change clear in the app's release notes too.
